WHAT IS WOOLCOOL INSULATION MADE OF?

100% felted sheep’s wool, sealed within industry grade polyethylene wrap.

HOW IS WOOLCOOL MADE?

Sheep’s fleeces are naturally washed, scoured and felted to make the insulation material to the required thickness which is then cut into strips and sealed within a polyethylene wrap.

HOW DOES WOOLCOOL KEEP CONTENTS COOL?

Wool fibres are incredibly effective at absorbing moisture from the air which minimises humidity and condensation to maintain stable temperatures. The polyethylene wrap which encloses the wool in Woolcool is micro-perforated to allow the fibres to breathe and create the natural cooling system.

HOW LONG WILL WOOLCOOL KEEP PRODUCTS BETWEEN 2°C – 8°C?

With ice sheets used to maintain the cool temperatures for pharmaceutical goods, the Woolcool insulation has been proven to keep contents between 2°C – 8°C for at least 72 hours.

HOW MANY ICE-SHEETS WILL I NEED?

Woolcool does need ice packs, although the efficiency of the wool liners means they need significantly less than the alternatives. Please contact us to discuss your particular application.

DOES WOOL KEEP PRODUCTS AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURES?

Yes, wool is excellent at maintaining temperature and has been tested for ambient and warm applications.

IS THE WOOL HYGIENIC?

Yes, wool is perfectly safe. The natural washing and scouring process requires no chemicals, additives or further sterilisation. Wool fibres have been scientifically proven to absorb and lock-in bacteria and dangerous chemicals. The wool is sealed within a polyethylene wrap to prevent the fibres coming into direct contact with packaged contents.

DOES THE WOOL SMELL OR TAINT?

No. After the natural washing and scouring process, the wool only has a similar smell to a new, pure wool jumper! It is also sealed within recyclable, industry grade polyethylene wrap to prevent contents coming into direct contact with the wool fibres.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN WOOLCOOL BE RE-USED?

This depends on the condition of the Woolcool after use, for example whether it has been ripped or if contents have spilled out or seeped into the insulation.

I’M A CONSUMER, WHAT DO I DO WITH WOOLCOOL ONCE I’M FINISHED WITH IT?

The wool is sustainable, recyclable, compostable and biodegradable. The polyethylene wrap is also recyclable. If the Woolcool cannot be re-used as it is, the wool can be recycled and re-used or put to many good uses from lagging pipes to insulating garden plants from the frost or as mulch!

I’M A BUSINESS, WHAT DO I DO WITH WOOLCOOL ONCE I’M FINISHED WITH IT?

Woolcool is biodegradable and the plastic film that seals the liner is recyclable!

This means that when businesses are finished with Woolcool they can strip the plastic film from the wool themselves and put it in their recycling, or drop it to a plastic recycling location listed here. The wool can be reused as compost because it is 100% biodegradable.

Alternately, Woolcool can be returned to us. Our recycling process begins with the plastic being stripped from the liner for recycling. The wool is then vigorously tested and assessed before it goes back into production, so the wool is recyclable too – sometimes up to three or four times!
